For any desiring to learn more about the Lindsay family that migrated from Kilmarnock, Scotland and helped settle Heber City, Utah and the Wasatch Valley.
Welcome
From all I can gather, William Lindsay was the straightest of arrows, a saint. In an attempt to keep his experiences accessible, I'm dedicating a few years of research into William Lindsay and putting it on this blog. Please sign the guestbook. I'd love for this to be a gathering place for discussion on the man and his family.

Welcome
I plan on starting this blog officially on January 1, 2011 and focusing on the William Lindsay born in 1847 to William and Christian [Christina] Howie Lindsay in Lanarkshire, Scotland. If you've found this blog through searching the web for information regarding the Lindsay family that moved from the Kilmarnock, Ayshire area of Scotland to the Heber Valley, Utah in 1862, please leave us a note. This post can be a guestbook of sorts.

Hi Ryan, Great blog! I'm so glad that you're doing this. William Lindsay was a great man and although I am related to him through his brother, I greatly admire and appreciate him for all his hard work recording what he could of the family histories.

Great blog! And welcome to the GeneaBloggers family!
ReplyDeleteRyan, I am a descendant of William Lindsay and Mary Murdoch Mair. I have immensely enjoyed reading your blog and reviewing this information. I would really like to obtain a copy of the autobiography of William Lindsay. Could you be of assistance in this regard. Please keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you Steve, I'm glad that this site can be a gathering place for descendants seeking more information.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Autobiography, it was produced in 1986 by Stanley Lindsay and his son S. Brian Lindsay. Stanley lives in Orem, Utah and can be contacted at 801.434.7334 for a $15 copy. The copy gives you a photocopy of the original journal set side by side with the typescript. There are some photos and poetry at the end as well.
Thanks for doing this! I appreciate the time you're taking to do so.

ReplyDeleteHi I am the Great Great Great Granddaughter of Mary Murray Murdoch "Wee Granny" Her is my line- her daughter Mary Murdoch Mair her son Alexander Mair his son is Lindsay Mair his son is Darwin Lindsay Mair and that bring it to me. Shirley Ann Mair Watkins! Thanks so much for making this blog. I was wondering if anyone has a photo of John Murdoch? I have one of Mary Murray Murdoch. I really want to see what he looks like. If anyone has a copy can you please let me know. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley, Thanks for stopping in. When you say you have a photo of Mary Murray Murdoch, are you certain? I have seen on ancestry and other sites that people have erroneously labeled her for photographs that are actually her daughters. Since she died in 1856, it is very improbable that there is a surviving picture, and if there was it seems it would have been discovered by James and Mary Murdoch Family Organization. He husband James died in 1831 so there are definitely no pictures of him. Can you share what you have? Also, by John Murdoch, do you mean John Murray Murdoch, son of James and Mary? There are certainly photos of John, I probably have some poor quality digital versions myself that culled from online website that I'd be willing to share.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this. I am related to William through his grandfather, Robert McQueen Lindsay, DoB August 22, 1799 and Elizabeth Geddes DoB August 22, 1799. That's right, they were born on the same day! . Robert and Elizabeth's youngest daughter Margaret, DoB 1837 married my great great grandfather John Hughes at Kilmarnock, Scotland in 1861. So, William's grandfather is my great, great, grandfather. Daniel J. O'Friel
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you Daniel. Have you ever been to the LDS church history museum to the see the account William Lindsay wrote to John Lindsay Hughes in 1921? I'm curious to know what is in the account. Cheers, Ryan.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this. I have wanted to learn more about my Lindsay family history, as I know very little. I was not raised by my real father and only within the last 20 years learned I was a Linsday when an Aunt sent me her Lindsay family history information. I am a descendant of two of Elizabeth Geddes Lindsays children, though I don't recall which two without checking. I found many of their graves several years ago and have been wishing I could know their stories, along with their names. I am thrilled to explore your blog, thank you so much! Heidi Rasmussen Adkins
ReplyDeleteMy great grandmother, Anne Isabel Lindsay, was the youngest of William and Elizabeth Geddes children. I wish Great grandpa Robert Lindsay had written as much history as poetry.
ReplyDeleteHi Ryan,
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! thanks for putting this all together. I am a descendant of Robert McQueen Lindsay and Elizabeth Geddes. This is an amazing amount of information. I wish I would have found it sooner, we just spent two weeks in Scotland looking at family history stuff and I would have loved to go see William's grave.
